Job summary

Hudbay is seeking a Senior Mine Operations Supervisor for the Copper World Site in Sahuarita, AZ. You will oversee day‑to‑day mine activities, ensure safe production, and coordinate loading, hauling and drilling with the drill and blast team.

The role requires 10+ years in mining with 5+ in supervision, MSHA familiarity, and strong leadership. You will report to the Mine General Foreman and support maintenance and processing teams.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of mining experience, including 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Thorough knowledge of open pit mine production environment including drilling, blasting, loading, and haulage
  • Experience supervising, managing, and optimizing the use of large heavy equipment for loading, haulage, and support equipment
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, Propeller, mine planning or fleet management software
  • Ability to work & multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all safety policies and company procedures are followed, leading by example
  • Enforce strict adherence to MSHA standards and environmental regulations; lead incident investigations
  • Collaborate with drill and blast superintendent to coordinate drilling and blasting activities
  • Supervise and coordinate loading and haulage activities
  • Ensure forecasted tonnage and ore grade targets are achieved with mine plans and budgets
  • Communicate work plans to crew supervisors, ensuring they are prepared and knowledgeable of projects prior to implementation
  • Manage performance evaluations and disciplinary actions for supervisors, operators, and laborers
  • Collaborate daily with maintenance, technical services, and processing to optimize equipment availability, utilization and operational flow
  • Provide verbal and written reports to the General Mine Foreman/Superintendent on daily progress
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement strategies to reduce downtime and improve operational efficiencies

Purpose Of Role

Reporting to the Mine General Foreman, this leadership role oversees day‑to‑day mine site activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective production at the Copper World Site.

Minimum Qualifications And Education
  • High School diploma / GED / associate’s degree
  • 10+ years of mining experience, including 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Thorough knowledge of open pit mine production environment including drilling, blasting, loading, and haulage.
  • Experience in mine planning and maintenance planning.
  • Experience supervising, managing, and optimizing the use of large heavy equipment for loading, haulage, and support equipment.
  • Policy and standard operating procedures development experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, Propeller, mine planning or fleet management software.
  • Ability to work & multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and meet all other job requirements.
  • Comfortable moving over uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work in different environmental conditions.
  • Positive work ethic.
  • Maintain a drug and alcohol‑free workplace.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, manage and grow the team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current MSHA certification.
Physical Demands

The job requires regular talking or hearing, standing, walking, sitting, using hands and arms, occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting or smelling, and lifting or moving up to 10, 25, or 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities may be required.

Work Environment

Work will involve proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to hot, dry weather, noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. Transportation may include company, rental or personal vehicles.
