Job summary

State of Wyoming is seeking a Natural Resources Specialist to oversee mining permit reviews and compliance, including uranium in-situ operations, with field inspections across districts. The role supports coordination with multiple agencies and enforces environmental standards.

The position requires science-based education and experience, with strong data review, GPS/GIS skills, and the ability to travel to field sites. Excellent public service benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, sciences field.
  • 0-3 years progressive work experience in sciences with NR Specialist level knowledge.
  • 4-6 years progressive experience with equivalent knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as permit coordinator for conventional and uranium in-situ mining operations, as assigned by the District III Supervisor.
  • Provides technical expertise and performs reviews of permits in support of other LQD Staff.
  • Conducts inspections of mining operations to determine compliance and writes detailed inspection reports.
  • Has authority to issue Violations and Cessation Orders and determine mitigation measures during coal inspections.
  • Writes enforcement actions (Conference and Conciliation, Notice of Violation, Order) and develops Settlement Agreements when appropriate.
