Job summary

USG is seeking a Mine/Mill Manager for our gypsum plant in Sperry, IA. This role leads safety, quality, and efficiency for the Mine and Mill departments, with 65 employees under two departments. Reports to Plant Manager and collaborates with production, quality, HR, and others.

The position emphasizes safety leadership, MSHA compliance, and strategic planning to meet short and long-term production goals, including capital projects and fleet management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Mining/Geological preferred.
• Experience in mine/quarry operations preferred; department manager experience a plus.
• Strong leadership, decision making and people skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of MSHA safety programs.

Responsibilities

• Foster a strong safety culture and improve mine/mill safety.
• Oversee department safety initiatives including MSHA compliance.
• Build relationships with production, distribution, CI, quality and HR.
• Coach and develop workforce and morale.
• Develop and implement strategies to meet production requirements short and long term.
• Establish, monitor and maintain the mobile equipment fleet.
• Manage facility planning and capital projects/purchases.
