Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation's Curlew Basin mine site is seeking an experienced maintenance leader to oversee mobile, fixed, and electrical maintenance. The role emphasizes safe, efficient operations and reliability-centered maintenance to maximise equipment availability.

You will lead a growing team, mentor colleagues, and partner with stakeholders to deliver preventive and corrective plans, manage budgets and parts inventory, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mining Engineering.
  • 10+ years maintenance experience in a mining or industrial environment.
  • 5+ years supervisory experience with proven team building.
  • Knowledge of mining equipment and underground operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostics in electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency with computer systems including JDE and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee mobile, fixed, and electrical maintenance activities at the mine site.
  • Lead, develop, and grow the maintenance team; provide guidance, mentorship, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies to optimise equipment availability, reliability and utilisation.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the preventive and corrective maintenance plans and schedules for the mine site.
  • Ensure the maintenance team safely achieve availability, reliability and cost targets through the delivery of effective maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Effectively communicate with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a safe and highly productive workplace through clear communications, efficient workflows, and system implementation.
  • Review and approve requisitions for parts, equipment and services to ensure cost-efficient procurement practices.
  • Manage and maintain parts inventory, including critical spares to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of the mine’s maintenance activities and expenditures.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives where possible without compromising safety or quality.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions for parts, equipment, and labour.
  • Ensure that maintenance employees, programmes, and systems are effective and support restart and production goals.
  • Oversee administration of the maintenance contracts.
  • Manage and maintain the maintenance job progression system and ensure that it is administered consistently and equitably.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under the direction of the General Manager, the incumbent will oversee the maintenance for the Curlew Basin mine site. This role requires strong technical expertise, management skills, and a deep understanding of safety and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the mobile, fixed, and electrical maintenance activities at the mine site.
  • Lead, develop, and grow the mine maintenance team; provide guidance, mentorship, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies to optimise equipment availability, reliability and utilisation.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the preventive and corrective maintenance plans and schedules for the mine site.
  • Ensure the maintenance team safely achieve availability, reliability and cost targets through the delivery of effective maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Effectively communicate with all internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills
  • A bachelor’s degree of Mechanical, Electrical, or Mining Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years of maintenance experience in a mining or industrial environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory role with proven team building skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mining equipment and underground mining operations.
  • Strong knowledge in electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Proficiency in use of computer systems including, but not limited to, JDE and Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Possesses strong leadership capabilities and the ability to foster a collaborative and cohesive team environment.
  • Exhibits a high level of integrity and ethical behaviour in all professional interactions.
  • Ability to recognise and resolve conflicts.
