Job summary

Sibanye-Stillwater's East Boulder Mine in McLeod, MT seeks an Engineer 1–3 to support production stope designs and short-range planning. You’ll work with senior engineers on mine planning, ventilation, and ground control, with Budgets and forecasts to be prepared.

A BS in Mine Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience is required. Responsibilities include applying AutoCAD/Deswik tools and ensuring safe, cost-efficient operations at the East Boulder Mine.

Qualifications

• BS in Mine Engineering or equivalent with 1–5 years' engineering experience, or 5–8 years equivalent work background.
• Demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for production stope designs and short-range planning.
• Design stope and access layouts, plus stope infrastructure requirements.
• Address ventilation boreholes, muck passes, drainage, and electrical installations.
• Apply diverse mining methods including ramp & fill, cut & fill, longhole stopes, and paste backfill.
• Assess ground control needs with rock mechanics engineers and perform ventilation assessments.
• Estimate economic viability under varying operating parameters; reconcile forecasts with achievements.
• Prepare yearly production budgets and monthly/quarterly forecasts.

Engineer 1, 2, or 3 - Mine

Location:

East Boulder Mine - McLeod, MT

Schedule:

5x2, 4x3 - 9-hour days

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

Provide engineering support for production stope designs and short-range planning. Mine planning includes stope and access design, along with stope infrastructure requirements. Infrastructure encompasses but is not limited to ventilation boreholes, muck passes, mine drainage, and electrical installations. Mining methods include ramp and fill, cut and fill (both mechanized and slusher supported), uphole longhole stopes, and underhand mining with paste backfill. Mine planning includes assessment of ground control needs (in conjunction with rock mechanics engineers), ventilation assessments (in conjunction with ventilation engineer), geological constraints or opportunities (with production geologists), and estimations of economic viability against varying operating parameters. Prepare yearly production budgets, monthly and quarterly forecasts, manpower budgets, and reconcile forecasts with achievements.

Qualifications and Skills:

Required:

• Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense and vision.
• Strong focus on safety while completing all tasks.
• Familiarity with rock mechanics and mine ventilation principles.
• Strong computer skills in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic understanding of MSHA regulations.
• Proven ability to work within a team-based environment.
• Working knowledge and experience with mine modeling software.
• Working knowledge and understanding of cost and schedule variance.

Preferred:

• Proven short-range mine planning and scheduling experience.
• Proficient use of Deswik mine design/scheduling software package.

Education and Experience:

• BS in Mine Engineering or equivalent with 1-5 years engineering experience, or 5-8 years equivalent working experience.
