The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mine/Geotechnical/Civil Engineering with extensive experience, as well as the ability to obtain a DOE badge and work legally in the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering is required with nine (9) years of mining, geotechnical or civil engineering experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Mine Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead and support core underground mining engineering activities, including design, development, and operational planning. Key responsibilities include collaborating with survey engineering technicians to conduct surface and underground field surveys, process survey data, and generate precise engineering drawings. The incumbent will train and qualify as a Cognizant Engineer across designated systems, actively facilitate daily operational interfaces, and drive the execution of mining activities. Additionally, this role evaluates methods and procedures to maximize cost-efficiency, identifies opportunities to integrate modern technological advancements, and partners with project engineers and management to establish technical requirements and achieve project objectives.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering is required with nine (9) years of mining, geotechnical or civil engineering experience is required.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
Preferred Requirements

Working knowledge of mine surveying using laser and other electronic processes is desired.

Preference given to candidates experienced with using Carlson Mining or Civil 3D Software.

Previous Nuclear Industry experience is preferred.

Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Supervisor experience is a plus.

Salary Range

$105,312 to $172,368 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 33-34. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
