Job summary

Merck in Rahway, NJ seeks a skilled maintenance technician responsible for installing, aligning, and repairing a wide range of industrial machinery and equipment. You will troubleshoot pumps, motors, compressors, and related systems, while following preventive maintenance schedules and safety guidelines.

The role requires hands-on fabrication from CAD drawings, proper rigging, and tool operation, with a strong emphasis on safe, efficient work practices and clean workspaces.

Qualifications

• High School graduate with vocational or technical shop certification in Machine Shop practice.
• 5+ years apprenticeship or equivalent mechanical experience.
• Experience with machine shop equipment, rigging, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Install, align, maintain, troubleshoot and repair machinery and mechanical equipment including motors, pumps, fans, belt drives, vacuum pump systems, air compressors, etc.
• Maintain all machine shop tools and equipment as required.
• Fabricate mechanical devices and replacement parts from sketches, CAD drawings/blueprints or verbal instructions.
• Inspect and service equipment according to preventative maintenance schedule and lubricate as required.
• Safely rig machinery, piping components and lab equipment in and out of operating areas.
• Operate hand/power tools and test instruments required by this trade and maintain/return in good condition.
• Demonstrate ownership of workplace safety by adhering to safety rules and reporting any unsafe conditions.
• Maintain work area and equipment in a safe, clean operating condition.
• Assist in performing other duties, including work of other trades as required.
