Job summary

Sims Metal in Chesapeake, VA is seeking an experienced Millwright - Shredder Operations to support scrap yard equipment through welding, fabrication, and heavy mechanical maintenance in an outdoor industrial setting.

You will diagnose, repair, align rotating equipment, assist with startup/shutdown, and help maintain safety and compliance while minimizing downtime and keeping production flowing.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of industrial or heavy equipment maintenance experience.
• Advanced troubleshooting and repair skills for rotating equipment, hydraulic systems, and shredder components.
• Strong welding, fabrication, rigging, and alignment capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on shredders, conveyors, magnets, eddy currents, shears, balers, and other material‑handling equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues including bearing replacement, gearbox repair, hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance, welding, fabrication, alignment, and rigging.
• Complete maintenance work orders, logs, and parts usage documentation accurately and timely.
