Job summary

Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., seeks a Millwright for our Bogalusa, LA facility to ensure production equipment is in good working order and functioning properly. You will use tools to repair, replace, and restore components on production equipment or facilities infrastructure in a lumber manufacturing plant.

Responsibilities include welding and fabrication as needed, hydraulic system repairs, and daily upkeep to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of plant millwright or maintenance experience, with a strong background in mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Uses tools to safely repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Repairs/replaces belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other machine parts.
  • Monitors spare parts inventories and initiates reorders when necessary.
  • Performs metal working (welding, cutting, fabricating) when necessary.
  • Repairs/replaces hydraulic units and oiling units.
  • Operates forklift or other rolling stock on occasion.
  • Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies; responds to repair/modification requests from Safety/HR Managers.

  • Uses all proper and necessary tools to safely repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Repairs/replaces belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other machine parts in a production environment.
  • Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.
  • Performs metal working (welding, cutting, fabricating) when necessary.
  • Repairs/replaces hydraulic units – oiling units and equipment (chains/sprockets).
  • Operates a forklift, mobile crane, or other rolling stock on occasion.
  • Communicates regularly with co-workers and management to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Implements projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures. Responds to repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or HR/Safety Manager.
  • May also have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.
  • Available to work any shifts and weekends as needed.
