Barkley Seed, Inc. in Five Points, CA is seeking an entry-level Production Worker for our mill warehouse.

This seasonal daytime role involves handling durum, wheat, safflower, barley and other grains, with emphasis on safety and quality. You will cross-train across duties, operate forklift and loading equipment, assist in inventory, packing and shipment preparation, and maintain a clean, compliant work environment according to OSHA standards.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for performing production work and support in a mill warehouse environment. This position will be working with premium quality durum, wheat, safflower, barley, Bermuda grass, and Sudan grass. Must be willing to be crossed-trained and move to other areas when needed.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Safely and efficiently handle, lift, mix, bag and load and move various raw materials, final products, and items packed for shipment manually utilizing hand tools, using hoists, and/or power equipment as needed.
• Safely follow bagging procedures. (packing bags on loading equipment, sewing equipment pallets)
• Assist in the regular maintenance associated with cleaning warehouse, equipment, pit areas and personal work/station areas.
• Accurately placing storing products in accordance with company standards and government regulated specifications.
• Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the diverse products carried; maintaining a safe and clean working environment and equipment while adhering to OSHA-FEDERAL, state, local, and industry safety regulations.
• Wrap and package product for shipment or delivery.
• Commitment to excellence and high quality work ethic standards.
• Support and assist in inventory tracking and maintenance.
• Unload/load trucks utilizing required equipment.
• Pick/Pack order. Place product of bags (up to 50 lbs) on pallets to prepare for storage/shipping.
• Receive/Stow product.
• Feed or place items onto equipment for processing.
• Accurately follow instructions from supervisors and management.
• Remove product and machine attachments.
• Adhere to all company rules and policies as laid out by employee orientation and handbook.
• Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
• Attend various trainings, clean other areas as needed and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Experience safely operating forklift, lift trucks, dollies and other loading and moving equipment used in warehouse operations.
• Warehouse experience at 1 year.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to do shift work seasonally.
• Forklift license a plus.

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES:

• Excellent communication skills.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be physically capable of lifting, carrying and loading up to 50 pound weight.
• Ability to stand for extended periods; bend, stoop, push, pull and kneel frequently.
• Flexibility to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time as well as climb stairs/ladders as needed.
• Hand dexterity and strength.
• Must be able to continuously climb and descend stairs safely utilizing hand rails.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Work to be performed in an industrial manufacturing/processing environment: indoors and outdoors.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with rapid hand and eye coordination.
• May by required to work in outside weather conditions.
• Uneven walking surfaces, heavy machinery, forklift traffic and loud noise.
