Job summary

Rex Lumber, LLC is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support our EHS Manager in developing and maintaining safety and environmental programs at our mill. You will conduct inspections, assist investigations, coordinate training, and maintain records to foster a proactive safety culture.

You will help drive compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, participate in safety meetings, and work with supervisors and employees to ensure effective safety practices on the mill floor.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations and best practices.
• Strong organization and attention to detail; manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication; work with employees at all levels.
• Willingness to learn and promote continuous safety improvement.
• OSHA 30 within first year.
• HS diploma or GED, degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist EHS Manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental policies, procedures, and programs.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements; escalate serious hazards to EHS Manager and supervision.
• Assist in investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses; contribute to corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety and environmental activities, including incident reports, training records, audits, and permits.
• Assist with coordination of safety training programs and onboarding for employees and contractors.
• Assist with new-hire safety onboarding and contractor safety orientation as directed.
• Monitor and track compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations; assist with regulatory reports as directed by EHS Manager.
• Participate in safety committee meetings and toolbox talks; support continuous safety improvements.
• Collaborate with Rex safety team to implement safety and environmental performance improvements.
• Assist with annual review of written safety programs.
• Stay informed on regulatory changes and best practices in safety management.
• Maintain safety software systems such as EAM, Brady, and SafetyAmp.
• Administer post-accident, for-cause, random, and new-hire drug screens.
• Conduct regular safety walk-throughs on assigned shift; ensure PPE and basic work-rule compliance; maintain bilingual safety signage.
