Job summary

A leading aluminum production company based in Williamsport is seeking a Mill Operator to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the aluminum rolling mill. You will be responsible for monitoring production processes, conducting inspections, and maintaining accurate records.   • Participate in training to improve mill operation skills.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Assist in writing JSAs and update procedures.

MILL OPERATOR SUMMARY

Chance Aluminum, based in Williamsport, PA, focuses on aluminum production as the domestic supplier for AA Metals, a Florida-based master distributor with global operations in the United States, Colombia, Turkey, Germany, and China. We are a safety focused industrial manufacturing facility looking to expand our team of dedicated, goal-driven individuals.

We have an immediate opportunity for Mill Operator(s) at our Williamsport facility. We're looking for a results-oriented professional with an exemplary track record of success in safety and collaboration to join our team.

MILL OPERATOR PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

Responsible for the safe operation of aluminum rolling mill, processing material from and to coils. Responsibility also includes ensuring safety and productivity goals are met while minimizing downtime and producing a quality product.

MILL OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operating rolling mill(s) in accordance with safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Change rolls used in production and assist other Mill Operators with roll changes and threading.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure efficient operation and product quality.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment to identify any issues or potential maintenance needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs, to keep machinery running smoothly.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with maintenance staff to resolve any issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including output quantities, downtime, and quality control checks through both manual and electronic data collection systems.
  • Collaborate with other team members to optimize production processes and achieve production targets.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Participate in training programs and skill development initiatives to enhance your knowledge and proficiency in mill operations.
  • Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Assists in writing and reviewing of operational job safety analysis (JSAs) on plant equipment; improves procedures and collaborates on new JSAs based on observations and experiences.
MILL OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a mill operator or similar role in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the metal industry.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform conversions to decimals or other forms of measurement.
  • Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot machinery issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols at all times.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with team members and supervisors.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Industrial manufacturing experience, preferred.
MILL OPERATOR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment. Physical conditions for positions: sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, grasp, ascend/descend stairs, maneuver within tight spaces, routinely lift up to 50 lbs. Must have visual acuity, excellent mobility, good hearing, manual dexterity, good balance, ability to work a minimum of 8 hours, and wear required personal protective equipment. All tasks performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

MILL OPERATOR WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working with and near electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels, dust, dirt, fumes, welding machines, and mobile equipment.
