Job summary

The North Mill Manager at Mission Copper Mine in Sahuarita, AZ leads the concentrator team to uphold safety, environmental compliance, and production efficiency. The role drives continuous improvement and staff development while aligning with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate milling production and maintenance priorities with the Maintenance Manager.
• Enhance the Total Safety Culture Program and Environmental guidelines to ensure employee safety and health.
• Manage budgeting and cost control for the North Mill.
• Monitor plant performance, troubleshoot deficiencies or failures, and recommend improvements.
• Hire and develop staff through coaching, training and performance reviews.
• Collaborate with the mine to improve overall production and recovery.
• Coordinate internal and external training to meet the needs of the mine and maintenance teams.
• May serve as Project Manager or Technical Expert on mill modification projects.
• Control the preparation and accuracy of North Mill production reports.
• Support and enforce the Company’s Environmental, Health and Safety program per policies.
• Provide support to management in forecasting capital and expense annual budgets.
• Supervise activities of North Mill Department staff.
• Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Job description

The North Mill Manager - Mission Copper Mine -Sahuarita, AZ will lead the concentrator team to create a safe, motivated and productive environment which stimulates continuous improvement. The highest standards must be maintained in areas of safety, environmental, plant productivity and efficiency. A successful candidate must have vision for employee development and plant improvements. The North Mill Manager will ensure that the plant adheres to all Company Policies as well as Federal, State and Local Regulations.

The concentrator consists of a primary gyratory crusher, secondary and tertiary crushing, numerous rod and ball mills, mechanical and column flotation circuit, disc filters, thickeners and tailings storage facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Coordinates milling production and maintenance priorities in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager.
• Work to enhance the existing Total Safety Culture Program and Environmental guidelines to insure employee safety and health.
• Manages budgeting and cost control for the North Mill.
• Monitors plant performance, troubleshoots deficiencies or failures and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Hires and develops staff through coaching, training and performance reviews.
• Works closely with the mine to strategize how to improve overall production and recovery.
• Manage and coordinate the internal and external training to meet the needs associated with the mine and maintenance teams.
• May serve as Project Manager or Technical Expert on mill modification projects.
• Controls the preparation and accuracy of North Mill production reports.
• Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company’s Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
• Provide support to management in forecasting capital and expense annual budgets.
• Supervise activities of North Mill Department staff.
• Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline highly preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive operational and leadership experience in mineral processing or large-scale metal milling environments, including at least 5 years in a superintendent or plant manager capacity overseeing a multi-stage concentrator plant. Equivalent combinations of education and experience.
• Deep, hands-on understanding of large-scale circuit operations, including primary gyratory crushing, secondary/tertiary crushing, rod and ball milling, mechanical/column flotation circuits, disc filtration, thickeners, and tailings management.
• Proficiency in plant automation and control systems, with specific working knowledge of Rockwell Automation platforms and enterprise resource planning software (SAP preferred).
• Proven track record in data-driven metallurgical accounting, recovery optimization, throughput maximization, and evaluating/implementing innovative mineral processing technologies.
• Exceptional ability to partner cross-functionally with Mine Operations, Maintenance Management, and Corporate Metallurgy to align mill feeds, equipment availability, and production goals, alongside experience managing multi-million-dollar operating budgets, capital expenditure (CapEx) forecasting, cost-control initiatives, and resource allocation.
• Strong mentorship and coaching mindset focused on building high-performing teams, continuous employee training, structured succession planning, and an unwavering commitment to championing a Total Safety Culture, enforcing strict adherence to MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) regulations, and maintaining environmental compliance across air, water, and waste protocols.
