Job summary

ASARCO LLC is seeking a Maintenance Sr. Superintendent to optimize maintenance and electrical repair activities at Ray Mine, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while maximizing equipment availability.

You will lead maintenance teams, coordinate contractors, audit project scopes, and drive continuous improvement across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.

Job description

The Maintenance Sr. Superintendent’s primary purpose is to optimize the ongoing all maintenance and electrical repair activities at Ray Mine to make the best use of available resources and best serve the needs of the department's customers. Ensure that the Maintenance areas operate safely consistent with Company policies and Federal, State and Local regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures optimization of safety aspects, environmental impact, production impact, job priority, workforce availability, material availability,financial impact, job duration, customer desires, and planned maintenance and program compliance.
  • Must be willing to follow the direction of the Maintenance Manager to meet the goals set forth by the Company.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are effectively planned, coordinated, implemented, and controlled to improve plant and equipment availability.
  • The Sr. Superintendent of Maintenance is responsible for building and maintaining an organization capable of completing not only the necessary repairs to maintain equipment availability but identifying failures and correcting root causes.
  • Review project documents prior to issue for scope and technical accuracy.
  • Analyze costs to determine where savings can be gained and where additional money is needed to reduce costs in the short or long run.
  • Review invoices for proper billing. Approve all purchases, stocking of parts, spare part levels and warranties.
  • Determine maintenance requirements and establish procedures/processes.
  • Negotiate equipment purchases and leases.
  • Justify capital expenditures as required to ensure the maintenance teams have the equipment to perform their duties as safely and efficiently as possible
  • Manage contractor projects, monitoring progress and costs.
  • Provide direct supervision to salaried maintenance, general supervisors, and clerical staff members.
  • Coaches and counsels' direct reports to provide continuous feedback on performance.
  • Communicates and interprets company /departmental directives to direct reports and monitors compliance.
  • Observe current maintenance procedures and develop improved procedures.
  • Foster a cohesive working relationship with the local unions and participate in committees as needed.
  • Manage the collective bargaining agreement with its guidelines. Hear and respond to no peremptory hearings and 2nd step grievances.
  • Must be able to manage personnel problems through set Company policies and· provisions within the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Participates in the company labor relations, disciplinary actions, and problem-solving programs.
  • Encourages an emphasis on departmental and company safety and environmental programs and practices.
  • Ability towritetechnical reports, letters, memos, and capital expenditure requests.
  • Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Maintain required training in environmental, safety and health awareness including MSHA requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong interpersonal skills in developing consensus building.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the mill operation, including crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, and filtering processes
  • Develop and implement operating plans, budgets, and performance metrics to meet production targets
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Lead and motivate a team of mill operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel
  • Identify and implement process improvements and technological innovations to enhance productivity and reduce costs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mining, processing, and maintenance teams to optimize the overall mining operation
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis to senior management on mill performance and operational issues
  • Oversee the maintenance and optimization of all mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems in the mill, including alignments, couplers, pump packing, chutes, liners, belt systems, and welding
  • Ensure the proper installation, calibration, and maintenance of process control instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, and analyzers
  • Implement predictive and preventive maintenance programs for all equipment to maximize uptime and reliability
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive maintenance plans, schedules, and documentation
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of maintenance crews, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely and effective maintenance
  • Analyze equipment performance data and maintenance records to identify and address root causes of failures
  • Collaborate with the electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and boilermaker teams to identify and resolve issues, and implement upgrades and improvements
  • Understand and interpret boilermaker drawings to ensure effective maintenance and repairs of mill equipment
  • Must have excellent computer skills with SAP and MS Office
  • Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
  • Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be willing to travel when required
  • Must be able to perform fieldwork, walk over rough terrain, sit, stand, bend, climb stairs/ladders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred.
  • Preferred 5 years of progressive experience in copper or other mineral processing operations.
  • Proven track record of leading and motivating teams to achieve operational excellence in both production and maintenance
  • - Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills
  • - Strong understanding of process control, automation, and optimization techniques, as well

o At least CEFR B2 - Upper Intermediate: Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
