Equipment must be checked for the source of the difficulty and fixed in a timely manner so that samples are not delayed. Schedules and tasks are arranged to meet sample load timing as much as possible. The incumbent works with senior technicians to determine the optimal solution to procedural problems.

The incumbent makes routine decisions as to whether proper methods have been followed to ensure the accuracy of test results. The supervisor or senior technicians can provide input for unique or difficult problems that may require modification of the analysis process. Written company procedures and policies, position precedents and Standard Operating Procedures provide guidelines to solve problems. The decisions of the incumbent will impact the timeliness of results to the client and the work of other technicians.

The incumbent receives general supervision from the department supervisor. The incumbent works toward specific goals and targets that are established based on sample load. Daily verification of results is performed by senior technicians. The testing procedure must be completed within a day to avoid delay in submitting results to the client. Inaccurate client information or testing requests can result in delayed process and can strain client relations and increase costs of analysis.
