Job summary

Newport Healthcare seeks a Milieu Counselor to manage the milieu through client engagement and crisis intervention under the Clinical Operations Manager. You will facilitate groups and activities for patients requiring emergent services, de-escalate crises, and coordinate with the care team to ensure continuity of treatment.

The role requires a bachelor’s in a clinical field, licensure as a Therapeutic Recreational Therapist (or enrollment in a relevant master’s program), and at least 2 years of

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, counseling, psychology or related clinical field required.
  • Enrolled in a master’s program in counseling, social work, or family therapy preferred.
  • Licensed as a Therapeutic Recreational Therapist required if not enrolled in a master’s program.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with adolescents or young adults in a mental health or substance abuse setting required.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with patients who are struggling or at risk of harm.
  • Support the direct care team in addressing patient issues within the community.
  • Model appropriate engagement and intervention strategies for direct care staff and in accordance with Newport’s philosophy and treatment model.
  • De-escalate struggling patients in the community with an understanding of crisis management techniques to reduce overall incidents and need for manual holds.
  • Understand the appropriate use of on-call support as needed.
  • Facilitate groups and activities as scheduled and as needed.
  • Work with the clinical and program leadership to coordinate evening and weekend treatment services.
  • Communicate with patient’s treatment team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Complete screening and assessment tools upon meeting criteria or completion of training.
  • Be responsible for the timely completion of clinical documentation (progress and group notes).
  • Attend weekly clinical supervision and treatment team meetings.
  • Attend training as assigned and when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in human services, counseling, psychology or related clinical field
Enrolled in a master’s program in counseling, social work, or family therapy preferred

Education, Experience, License Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, counseling, psychology or related clinical field required.
  • Enrolled in a master’s program in counseling, social work, or family therapy preferred.

Compensation ranges from $25.27 to $32.85 depending on education, licensure and experience.
