Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Migrant Paraprofessional at the secondary level to support migrant students in their academic journey. This full-time role works with teachers to provide individualized assistance, foster a positive learning environment, and promote the educational and social development of migrant students.

You will help implement lesson activities, support one-on-one and small groups, communicate with families, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to an inclusive school community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience with secondary-level students in diverse or migrant settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Spanish desirable.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our educational team as a Migrant Paraprofessional at the secondary level. This full-time position is designed to support migrant students in their academic journey, ensuring they have the resources and assistance needed to succeed in a diverse learning environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and staff to provide individualized support, foster a positive learning atmosphere, and promote the educational and social development of migrant students.

Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities tailored to the needs of migrant students.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them with assignments, projects, and study skills.
  • Collaborate with educators to identify and address the academic and emotional needs of migrant students.
  • Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff to promote engagement and support.
  • Help students develop effective study habits and organizational skills.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers regarding student performance and areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and resources that are culturally relevant and accessible to migrant students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to supporting migrant populations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and adhere to school policies and procedures.
  • Support the integration of migrant students into school activities and programs, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience working with secondary-level students, particularly in a diverse or migrant education setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by migrant students and families, as well as resources available to support them.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable, particularly Spanish.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and resources that support student learning.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment for all students.
