Job summary

Unalaska City School District is seeking a Paraprofessional to work with students in reading activities, including after-school programs. Candidates should have a High School Diploma or GED, and bilingual skills in English and Yup’ik are preferred.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate successful experience in education and have the ability to work in a rural Alaskan environment, promoting learning and collaboration with students and parents.

Job description

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bilingual in English and Yup’ik preferred.
  • Meet NCLB Paraprofessional Qualification requirements (48 semester hours or an Associate's Degree or pass State-Approved Academic Competency test with a score of 459 or higher).
  • At least two years demonstrated successful work experience in education preferred.
  • Ability to establish rapport and communications with students, faculty, administration and parents.
  • Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
  • Ability to carry out successfully the duties described below.
Duties
  • Works with students in reading during/after regular school hours as set forth by district Title 1/Migrant Education grant.
  • Initiates parent involved reading activities.
  • Will provide extended school and home reading activities as determined by site plan.
  • Follows the performance standards according to the district Title 1/Migrant Education plan.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Works with Library Aide and Site Staff in developing and implementing a reading incentive program.
  • Participates in teacher and parent orientation regarding the school program.
  • Supports district and school curricular goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
