Job summary

Gulf Island is seeking a Welder to perform MIG welding on aluminum, steel, and stainless components, with emphasis on heavy tubing and plenum work. The role includes reading blueprints, measuring parts, and performing weld tests in outdoor environments.

The position requires 1+ years of MIG/welding experience, ability to work at heights on ladders and lifts, and passing pre-employment screenings. Safety gear and PPE are mandatory, with comprehensive benefits offered.

Qualifications

• 1+ years experience in MIG, structural and sheet metal welding, including work with plenum and structural heavy welding of tubing
• Experience with fabricating and assembling metal parts as needed
• Familiarity working with plenum structures and heavy weld tubing
• Comfort with converting fractions to decimals and applying basic math to welding tasks
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work at heights using platform ladders and scissor lifts
• Must successfully pass written and practical Welding Tests
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical
• Must be able to pass a background check

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding (95% of the work), on aluminum, steel and stainless steel components
• Weld heavy tubing and sheet metal (14 gauge), including structural and plenum work
• Assist in fabrication of custom components, ensuring accuracy in dimensions
• Conduct weld tests to ensure strength, integrity and quality
• Read blueprints and schematics to determine welding requirements; measure and cut materials with tape measures
• Use basic math to convert fractions to decimals and ensure measurement accuracy
• Operate platform ladders and scissor lifts safely in elevated work areas
• Follow safety protocols and use PPE; maintain a clean, organized work area
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
