Job summary

Swanton Welding Company in Griffin, GA is seeking a Welder to join a manufacturing team. The role runs Monday–Friday from 4 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You will perform MIG welding on steel components, follow strict safety protocols, and contribute to a quality-focused shop environment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, MIG welding experience, and a strong attention to detail. You will work with a collaborative team and support continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to test and pass welder qualification test.
  • Thorough understanding of tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of MIG welding of carbon and stainless steel.
  • Must be able to complete a manual welding test. Welds are judged on functionality and esthetics.
  • Must be able to perform accurate mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
  • Ability to work with fractions and decimals.
  • Compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Attendance record with good to excellent reliability.
  • Strong mechanical abilities; fast learner; detail oriented; team player; positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Understand safety features and ensure safe operation of machines and tooling.
  • Follow safety protocol including PPE such as FR clothing and protective footwear.
  • Plan work order procedures and gather required tools and materials as instructed.
  • Assess equipment, structures, materials, and job specs for welding positions and methods.
  • Perform MIG welding activities to steel components.
  • Maintain welding fixtures and tooling in good order.
  • Visually inspect weld quality and use inspection tools to confirm specs.
  • Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
  • Understand the safety features of the machines and tooling to ensure they are operating without compromise to safety systems.
  • Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat resistant gloves, flame resistant (FR) clothing, protective masks, and safety toed footwear.
  • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Assesses equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods.
  • Ability to perform MIG welding activities to steel components
  • Maintain welding fixtures and tooling in a suitable working order
  • Visually inspect weld quality and use other quality inspection equipment to confirm compliance to part specifications.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and work area
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Willingness to test and pass welder qualification test
  • Thorough understanding of tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Welding experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge based and working background in MIG welding of carbon and stainless steel products

  • A work history of compliance to safety, quality, and productivity standards
  • A work history that supports a good to excellent attendance record

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Preferred skills:
  • At least 2 years' welding experience and able to perform MIG welding.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand Work Orders.

  • Walking, Standing, Sitting Kneeling, Stooping
  • Lifting, Carrying up to 50 pounds
