Job summary

The New York City Bar Association in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a Handyperson/Maintenance Person for our landmark 60,000 square foot building. This in-person role supports Building Operations, performing plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs with a focus on reliability and safety.

You will work under the Senior Manager of Operations, require at least 5 years in maintenance, and be able to lift 75 lbs and pass Genie lift certification within 3 months.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience.
• Skilled in basic electrical and plumbing work.
• Skilled in carpentry (woodworking, cabinetry, repairs).
• At least 2 years in an office or corporate environment.
• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of safety standards (Lockout-Tagout, MSDS) or training within 3 months.
• Lifts up to 75 lbs and uses appropriate lifting techniques.
• Genie aerial lift certification within 3 months.
• Overtime flexibility and shifting schedules as needed.
• Proficient email communication for facility requests.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair drywall walls and partitions to finish quality.
• Repair and refinish wood office furniture.
• Perform general basic electrical repairs.
• Perform general locksmith and repair duties.
• Make general plumbing repairs and replace plumbing fixtures.
• Repair building maintenance machines and equipment.
• Make repairs to office lamps, receptacles and power cords.
• Ensure jobsite is kept clean and neat during and after each shift.
• Maintain maintenance workshop area in a clean and organized, professional manner.
• Work with the building porters, as needed, for meeting and event setups when time allows.
• Respond to emails regarding facility requests in a timely manner.
• Meet weekly or as needed with direct management to review workflow priorities and status
• Other relevant duties as assigned.
