Job summary

The New York City Bar Association, a historic nonprofit organization, seeks a hands-on Handyperson/Maintenance Person for its landmark Midtown Manhattan building. You will handle a range of maintenance tasks, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and adapt shifts to project scope and customer impact.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of trade experience, plus experience in a corporate setting, and proven skills with electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience.
• Must be skilled in basic electrical and plumbing work.
• Must be skilled in carpentry (woodworking, cabinetry, wood repair, etc...).
• At least 2 years of prior experience in an office or corporate environment.
• Hands‑on experience safely using hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of industry safety standards (Lockout-Tagout, MSDS), or training within first 3 months.
• Must have solid knowledge of building maintenance and be proactive.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Flexible to work additional hours and adjusted shift times.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair drywall walls and partitions to finish quality.
• Repair and refinish wood office furniture.
• Perform general basic electrical repairs.
• Perform general locksmith and repair duties.
• Make general plumbing repairs and replace fixtures.
• Repair building maintenance machines and equipment.
• Make repairs to office lamps, receptacles and power cords.
• Ensure jobsite is kept clean and neat during and after each shift.
• Maintain maintenance workshop area in a clean and organized, professional manner.
• Work with building porters for meeting/event setups when time allows.
• Respond to emails regarding facility requests in a timely manner.
• Meet weekly with direct management to review workflow priorities and status.
• Other relevant duties as assigned.
