Description
The Middleware Engineer in this role will design, build, and modernize enterprise-grade middleware architectures for our global clients, with a strong focus on highly regulated industries such as financial services and banking. In this role, you will act as a senior technical contributor, partnering closely with enterprise architects, application development teams, and platform engineering organizations to drive seamless integration, automation, and cloud adoption.
You will leverage your deep expertise in Java-based application servers, Linux environments, and infrastructure-as-code to engineer robust middleware solutions across virtualized, bare-metal, and containerized platforms—with a specific emphasis on AWS EC2 deployments.
Responsibilities
- Middleware Architecture & Implementation: Design, deploy, configure, and manage mission-critical middleware environments across multiple technologies, including IBM WebSphere, Apache Tomcat, JBoss EAP, and Oracle WebLogic.
- Infrastructure Provisioning & Automation: Utilize Terraform for robust infrastructure provisioning within AWS environments, and develop comprehensive automation workflows using Ansible for installation, configuration, patching, and application deployments.
- Platform Modernization & POCs: Design and develop Proofs of Concept (POCs), pilot implementations, and automation solutions that accelerate middleware adoption and cloud migration initiatives.
- Enterprise Integration: Seamlessly integrate middleware platforms with enterprise applications, security services, monitoring tools, identity platforms, databases, messaging systems (e.g., IBM MQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ), and cloud services.
- Troubleshooting & Performance Tuning: Perform advanced root-cause analysis and performance tuning across middleware, infrastructure, networking, and application layers, managing Java runtime environments (Oracle Java and OpenJDK).
- Multi-Platform Operations: Engineer and operate scalable middleware stacks across VMs, bare metal, and modern container platforms, prioritizing AWS EC2 deployments over purely managed services.
- Collaboration: Work independently as a senior technical leader while partnering effectively with cross-functional architecture and application teams to deliver secure, resilient solutions.
Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on engineering experience with several of the following core middleware technologies:
- IBM WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Liberty
- IBM HTTP Server and Apache HTTP Server
- Apache Tomcat
- Red Hat JBoss / JBoss EAP
- Oracle WebLogic
- Deep expertise in Java-based middleware architecture, Linux administration, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Proven track record of integrating middleware platforms with enterprise applications, security services, monitoring tools, identity platforms, databases, messaging systems, and cloud services.
- Demonstrated ability to design and develop POCs, pilot implementations, and automation solutions that accelerate middleware adoption and platform modernization.
- Hands‑on automation experience using Ansible (installation, configuration, patching, deployment, and operational workflows) and Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, particularly within AWS environments.
- Experience working with APIs, web services, messaging technologies, and service integration frameworks.
- Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills spanning middleware, infrastructure, networking, and application layers.
- Experience engineering and operating middleware across VMs, bare metal, and container platforms.
- AWS experience, particularly deploying and operating middleware on EC2 rather than relying exclusively on managed middleware services.
- Proficiency with Java runtime environments, including Oracle Java and OpenJDK.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as a senior technical contributor while partnering effectively with architects, application teams, and platform engineering organizations.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with middleware observability, logging, monitoring, and operational tooling (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Experience with enterprise messaging technologies such as IBM MQ, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices supporting automated middleware deployments.
- Experience supporting financial services, banking, or other highly regulated environments.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science
- Nice to have professional certifications related to the tech stack—such as AWS Certified SysOps Administrator / Solutions Architect, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) for JBoss/Linux, or relevant Java certifications
