Job summary

Ada S. McKinley Community Services, Inc is seeking an academic tutor to support 6th–8th grade students in Chicago under supervision by the Program Director.

You will deliver tutoring, review materials, and help students build essential skills in a supportive setting. Requirements include at least two years of undergraduate study, the ability to work part-time 16 hours per week, and availability for the July–August summer program.

Qualifications

• Two years of undergraduate study completed

• Previous tutoring or mentoring elementary school students

Responsibilities

• Deliver academic tutoring to 6th–8th grade students under supervision
• Review materials and present concepts to improve skills
• Attend training and planning sessions with the Reading Specialist
• Plan enrichment activities and workshops
• Organize tutoring materials and supplies for sessions
• Maintain student information including attendance and test scores
• Document student issues and communicate with supervisors
• Log tutoring activities for self-evaluation and development
• Learn students’ names promptly and build positive relationships
• Conduct tutoring sessions with individuals and small groups
• Provide encouragement to help students overcome obstacles to success
