Job summary

Sussex Academy Charter School in Georgetown, Delaware, invites applications for the 2026-2027 Middle School Softball Head Coach. This casual/seasonal position reports to the Athletic Director and involves overseeing practices, game planning, and safety.

Responsibilities include coordinating with assistant coaches, maintaining equipment inventories, ensuring compliance with HAC and DIAA policies, and supporting student-athletes in academics and athletics. CPR and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Previous coaching experience preferred.
• Familiarity with DIAA rules, regulations, procedures and policies preferred.

• Works collaboratively with coaches to implement organized practice plans and game strategies.
• Helps oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
• Responsible for adherence to all HAC, DIAA, and school rules, regulations, and policies.
• Prepares detailed inventory of team equipment and updates inventory after each session.
• Maintains and updates team and individual records.
• Follow and practice Sussex Academy's Mindful Coach Profile.
• Performs other duties as assigned that relate to this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Conducts self in a professional and sportsmanlike manner at all times.
• Represents the school in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
• Promotes and monitors effective individual and team conduct at practice, during meets and in our schools and community to support Sussex Academy
• Demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between the athlete, academics and overall athletic and school program.

Requirements

• Possess CPR certification and concussion protocol training or willingness to become certified (Head and Assistant Coaches).
• Clean Criminal Background Check, Delaware Child Protection Registry clearance, TB test must be completed prior to the start of employment or work with student athletes.
