Job summary

Reading School District is seeking a Middle School Softball Assistant Coach to support a safe, inclusive program, supervise student-athletes, and reinforce good sportsmanship. The role reports to the Director of Athletics and high school head coach and requires dedication to youth development and safety.

You will coordinate youth outreach, assist with practice planning, and help manage equipment and facilities, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and off-season sessions.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience supervising athletics, recreation, education, or related fields preferred.
• Strong ability to communicate with adults and students in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise student athletes during practices and activities.
• Stay current with coaching techniques, rules, and safety practices.
• Monitor athletes to prevent injuries and ensure safe conditions.
• Place student athletes in positions to succeed in sport and life.
• Communicate with athletics staff, officials, and parents as needed.
• Secure equipment and facilities after each usage.
• Attend training sessions and staff meetings.
• Work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Verify athlete eligibility according to PIAA and Reading School District policies.
