Job summary

Reading School District in Reading, PA is seeking a Middle School Assistant Coach to supervise student athletes, teach safe techniques, and foster a positive, inclusive program. You will promote athletic development and character building through structured practice and mentorship.

The role involves flexible hours, adherence to district policies, and collaboration with staff, families, and community youth programs to grow participation and pride in Red Knight athletics.

Qualifications

• Must be a minimum age of 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferable experience working in a supervision role in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students in a diverse work environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise student athletes
• Stay current with current rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices
• Monitor student-athletes to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Place student-athletes in positions to succeed not only in their sport, but also in life
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with sports medicine staff, game workers, officials, media, students, parents, spectators, and facility staff.
• Ensures that all possible safety measures are observed, including taking proper care of equipment and proper surveillance of program participants.
• Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
• Work flexible hours including off season training, early mornings, afternoon/evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Verify student-athletes are eligible by PIAA and Reading School District Athletic policies.
• Secure equipment and facilities after each usage
• Communicate with RSD admin, safe schools, custodial services and/or RPD as needed.
• Communicate with youth groups and foster participation growth
• Be a good role model to student-athletes
• Support all RSD athletics
