Summary Of Main Duties:

Creates a culturally responsive learning environment inclusive of students from all backgrounds. Encourages a sense of belonging, promotes critical thinking, problem solving, inquiry, and data interpretation. Validates students as assets and is aware of microaggressions, redirecting to affirmations. Fully engages students in discussions and participation modalities.

Essential Functions

• Teaches general science concepts and skills to middle school students using adopted curriculum
• Develops diverse lesson plans and instructional materials
• Demonstrates concepts using models, talk, reflective writing, and technology
• Has a deep understanding of middle school science concepts and student thinking
• Knows developmental benchmarks in science education
• Uses authentic assessment practices and strategies to mitigate stereotype threat
• Practices formative assessment methods
• Provides purposeful, flexible individual and small group instruction
• Co-teaches with special educators, ensuring inclusive instruction
• Demonstrates culturally informed behavior management and discipline, neutralizing inequities
• Uses positive guidance techniques like redirection, modeling, and praise
• Maintains respectful contact with families from diverse backgrounds
• Facilitates social, emotional, and cognitive growth among students
• Collaborates with colleagues on curriculum planning and adaptation
• Supervises students during activities and emergencies
• Engages in ongoing professional development
• Performs other duties as assigned
