Job summary

Seekonk Public Schools seeks a dedicated Middle School Science Teacher to provide learning experiences in General Science aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards. The candidate will collaborate with colleagues, adapt instruction for IEP/504 plans, use technology in the classroom, assess student progress, and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); 2026-2027 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education, as set forth in the agreement between the Seekonk School Department and the Seekonk Educators Association

LOCATION: Dr. Kevin M. Hurley Middle School

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

The Middle School Science Teacher provides learning experiences in General Science, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Licensed, or eligible for licensure in General Science (5-8) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults.
• Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
• Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
• Experience in teaching honors/AP courses is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

• Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect accommodation and regulatory compliance regarding the individual needs of students with IEPs or 504 Plans.
• Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives and methods according to the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
• Use appropriate technologies in the teaching/learning process.
• Use formative and summative assessment to inform instruction and improve student achievement.
• Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.
• Create a classroom environment that is respectful, challenging and responsive to diverse student needs including the physical, social and emotional development of all students.
• Demonstrate sound behavior management practices within the classroom and administer discipline according to school department policies and administrative regulations.
• Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
• Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
• Provide direction for and monitor the activities of a Teaching Assistant (Paraprofessional), if one is assigned to the classroom.
• Other duties, as assigned according to the SEA contract.
