Job description

Job Title: Science Teacher - STEAM Academy

The Ferguson Florissant School District is seeking an outstanding educator for the position of Science Teacher at the STEAM Academy. The STEAM/Gifted Program provides an environment of excellence where students engage in project-based learning to develop a deep understanding of academic content and apply their knowledge. Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning and are encouraged to question and innovate. The program focuses on six essential competencies:

  1. Master core academic content
  2. Think critically and solve complex problems
  3. Work collaboratively
  4. Communicate effectively
  5. Learn how to learn
  6. Develop academic mindsets

Students in the STEAM/Gifted program will develop cognitive abilities, intrapersonal and interpersonal skills essential for lifelong success in 21st-century skills and civic life.

Job Summary/Purpose

Facilitate curriculum and life skills learning that contribute to developing mature, capable, and responsible individuals.

Essential Functions
  1. Respect the uniqueness of each learner.
  2. Meet the individual needs of all students to promote growth and development.
  3. Convey information effectively through written and verbal communication.
  4. Encourage student ownership of behavior.
  5. Work collaboratively in a team to produce critical thinkers in a project-based STEAM environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Valid Missouri professional teaching certificate for Science grades 6-9.
  2. Gifted certification K-12 preferred or the ability to obtain it within 2 years.
  3. Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Science; Master’s in Education or Science preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Plan daily instructional activities, including lesson plans, materials, and assessments tailored to student needs.
  2. Implement acceleration and differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs.
  3. Maintain high expectations and serve as a facilitator of student learning.
  4. Use various teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize learning.
  5. Assess student progress through formative and summative methods, providing feedback and adjusting instruction accordingly.
  6. Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policies.
  7. Teach the district curriculum as outlined in official documents.
  8. Engage in professional growth activities.
  9. Participate in school and district activities.
  10. Create and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
  11. Manage student behavior positively, adhering to district policies and legal requirements.
  12. Develop strategies to promote responsibility, self-control, and decision-making among students.
  13. Collaborate respectfully and effectively with colleagues to enhance school effectiveness.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
