Description

Latin School of Chicago is looking for a full-time middle school science teacher to teach sixth grade for the 2025-2026 school year (one year only). This position includes our generous benefits package.

Responsibilities:

• Teach 6th grade science emphasizing life science, including cells, animal behavior and adaptations, introductory genetics, ecology and environmental science.
• Supervise students in non-classroom activities as assigned including supervisions, such as lunch, study hall, and recess duty.
• Attend required department, faculty, and school meetings.
• Communicate effectively as a team member with fellow faculty in the grade level, department, and middle school as a whole.
• Cultivate an inclusive and supportive climate for all students, particularly students from underrepresented backgrounds.
• Use educational technology as a vital part of teaching.
• Engage in professional development that is appropriate for the role and aligned with school and department goals and philosophies.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in science or related field and 3-5 years teaching experience is required. A master’s degree in education or a related field is preferred.
• Place a high value on diversity and foster an appreciation for differences in our community.
• Well versed in utilizing educational technology, contributing to interdisciplinary projects, and experience with project-based learning is desired.
• Understands the needs of children and supports the social/emotional growth of all students.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to stand for long periods at a time.
• Able to speak clearly so listeners can understand.
• Able to see details of people and objects more than a few feet away.

Compensation:

• Salary is based on education level and years of experience as outlined in our Faculty Scale.
