Job summary

Notre Dame de Sion Grade School seeks a Middle School Math teacher to deliver high-quality instruction aligned with the Common Core standards. The teacher will design engaging lessons, assess student progress, and support the whole child through collaborative work with families and staff.

Qualified candidates have a Bachelor's or Master’s in Math education, ability to teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry, and a commitment to an inclusive, faith-based learning community.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Middle School Math curriculum and standards
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Middle School Math or related field; state certification preferred but not required
  • Ability to teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry preferred
  • Experience with standards-based instruction and data-driven planning
  • Commitment to inclusion and diversity

Responsibilities

  • Create and follow a classroom schedule including whole group, small group and individualized instruction
  • Create lesson plans aligned to the Common Core Math Standards
  • Maintain a safe, structured, positive and inclusive classroom, hallway, and playground environment
  • Establish and implement a positive and effective classroom management system
  • Demonstrate competency and creativity with school related technology
  • Engage in ongoing assessment of student progress using a variety of means, maintaining accurate records, and using data to tailor instruction to individual students’ needs to increase and improve performance
  • Work collaboratively in a professional team environment, working with other teachers and administrators
  • Attend and participate in required faculty meetings and professional development
  • Participate in required duties such as drop off and pick up, lunch duty, recess duty
  • Assist with other projects, programs and plannings as assigned

POSITION TITLE: Middle School Math
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Full Time/Exempt
REPORTS TO: Grade School Principal
EVALUATED BY: Principal and Assistant Principals

The Middle School Math Teacher at Notre Dame de Sion Grade School provides high-quality and rigorous instruction by preparing quality lesson plans adhering to the Common Core Math Standards, conducts classroom, small group and individual instruction, and is responsible for developing the whole child. The teacher assesses instructional materials and student performance and works collaboratively with staff, faculty and parents.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Middle School Math, Math Education, a related field, or demonstrated results. Ability to teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry preferred.
  • State Certification preferred but not required, must maintain professional credentials as required by ISACS accrediting association.
  • Experience following a math curriculum tied to national learning standards
  • Ability to analyze results from standardized and summative tests preferred.
  • Ability to pass a required Background Check.
  • Organized, self starter who can efficiently move between tasks throughout the day.
  • Strong understanding of child growth and development.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse community as reflected through the curriculum and learning environment.
  • Knowledge and implementation of best practices in student instruction and learning.
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, parents, staff and students.
  • Develop a positive presence in the internal and external community.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work in a classroom environment.
  • Ability to work at a desk and computer for a period of time.
  • Ability to move about a multi level building.
