Job summary

Dwight School, an innovative preschool-12 coeducational institution on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is seeking a dynamic Middle School Librarian (grades 5-8) for a leave replacement from December 2026 through June 2027. The role focuses on managing daily library operations and supporting research skills for students and faculty.

Candidates should hold a MLS or related degree, have experience with students, and be eager to foster a love of reading while collaborating with teachers.

Qualifications

Middle School Librarian - Leave Replacement

Full Time, 9am-5:30pm; Temporary (approximately December 2026 - June 2027)

Position Overview:

Dwight School, an innovative preschool-grade 12 coeducational school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is seeking a dynamic Middle School (grades 5-8) Librarian for a leave replacement position for December 2026-June 2027.

Responsibilities:

• Design and manage the daily operation of the Middle School Library for students and faculty in grades 5-8. This includes providing students the following: a dynamic library experience, research skills instruction, supporting faculty and students' needs for library resources, programming to support the community and overseeing the lending library.


• Run library programming to promote reading (book talks, lunch reads, etc.)


• Collaborate with faculty to support learning throughout grades 5-8.


• Assist faculty and students with the meaningful use of the school's library, media, and technology resources. This includes evaluating and ordering new library materials/databases and informing community members of appropriate resources.


• Regularly weeds the collection to ensure that positions are accurate, current, and meeting curricular needs


• Keep the library website up to date to help students and faculty meet both their academic and recreational needs


• Support appropriate learning in the areas of digital citizenship & literacy, use of social media, and online learning and research.


• Act as an advocate promoting a love of reading in the school community.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor or Master Degree in Library Science or related field.


• Previous experience working with students preferred


• Prior teaching experience in a library setting

Compensation commensurate upon experience: $65,000-$75,000/annum (prorated for the length of the leave)
