Job summary

George Washington Middle School is seeking an Alternative Education Teacher to supervise and coordinate the in-school suspension program. You will work with administrators and teachers to steer academic activities, model replacement behaviors, and support students in completing work.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with a Master’s preferred, and a Virginia teaching license at hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University in a Related Field Required
• Master's Degree Preferred
• Valid Virginia Teaching License at time of hire

Responsibilities

• Coordinate a supervised, structured environment for students in the in-school suspension program.
• Serve as liaison between administrative staff, classroom teachers, and students to obtain and return daily class work and homework.
• Assist students with completing regular classroom assignments.
• Instruct students on replacement behaviors using social skills curriculum and restorative practices.
• Communicate behavior, school rules, and program regulations to students in the ISS program.
• Explain the reasons for ISS and help students reflect on behavior and impact on education.
• Encourage students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.
• Monitor progress of students assigned to the program and track grades and behavior.
• Develop data collection protocols for student monitoring and progress.
• Communicate with parents and teachers regarding student behavior and progress.
• Report inappropriate behavior and program effectiveness to staff and suggest improvements.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field
