Job summary

The Leffell School in Hartsdale, NY is seeking a Middle School Hebrew Teacher to join our Upper School Hebrew Team for the coming school year, teaching grades 6-8.

We value experienced educators who can engage students across fluency levels, promote Israeli culture, and use diverse Hebrew instructional approaches.

Ideal candidates have 2–3 years of classroom Hebrew teaching, familiarity with Bishvil HaIvrit, and a master’s degree in education is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two to three years of experience teaching Hebrew in a formal classroom setting is required, ideally at the middle school level.
• Experience with the Bishvil HaIvrit curriculum is a bonus.
• A master’s degree in education is preferred.
• The ability to support and teach students who learn language with difficulty would be highly welcomed but is not required.

Responsibilities

• Teach Hebrew to middle school students (grades 6–8) and promote active, engaging lessons across listening, speaking, reading and writing.
• Model Hebrew use throughout the school and foster Israeli culture while building strong student relationships.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop dynamic lessons and assess student progress across fluency levels.

The Leffell School is a dynamic, K-12 independent Jewish school serving approximately 850 students in Westchester County, 30 minutes north of New York City. We emphasize academic excellence, traditional Jewish learning and values, and a strong sense of community.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Hebrew teacher to join our Middle School Hebrew Team, teaching grades 6-8 for the coming school year at our Upper School, located in Hartsdale, New York.

The ideal candidate understands students and their needs and is a collaborative colleague who is capable of creating dynamic and active lessons that engage students in content while teaching critical skills related to the four strands of language acquisition: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. He or she will have mastery in multiple approaches to Hebrew instruction and teach students at different levels of fluency across all three grades of middle school. In addition to teaching Hebrew in the classroom, this colleague will model the use of Hebrew in the hallways and throughout the school, while promoting Israeli culture and building strong relationships with students.
