The role involves recruiting, instructing, supervising, planning practices, coordinating with staff, ensuring safety, and maintaining athletic eligibility while upholding district policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of wrestling rules, techniques, strategies, and safety.
• Ability to motivate, instruct, and supervise student‑athletes.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, students, parents, and community members.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain on hire).
• Successful completion of district/state coaching requirements.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and encourage student participation in the athletic program.
• Instruct, supervise, and develop student‑athletes.
• Evaluate athlete skills, assign positions, and oversee development.
• Provide leadership to assistant coaches for consistent instruction.
• Plan and conduct practices to promote improvement.
• Instruct athletes in rules, techniques, and safety.
• Prepare team for games and tournaments.
• Coach during practices, competitions, travel, and related activities.
• Promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and positive behavior.
• Monitor academic eligibility and encourage academic success.
• Communicate with parents, staff, media, boosters, and community stakeholders.
• Oversee equipment management, inventory, and records.
• Coordinate team events and departmental functions.
• Ensure compliance with athletic regulations and procedures.
• Serve as a positive role model and maintain confidentiality.
• Work with staff and support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
• Uphold school policies and educational standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Manteno Middle School is seeking applicants for the position of Head Wresting Coach. The Head Coach develops and maintains a successful athletic program that promotes student‑athlete growth, sportsmanship, academic achievement, and competitive excellence.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated knowledge of the sport, including rules, techniques, strategies, and safety practices
• Ability to effectively motivate, instruct, and supervise student‑athletes
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, students, parents, and community members
• Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED (or ability to obtain upon hire, if required by the district)
• Successful completion of all district, state, and athletic association coaching requirements

• Provide leadership and direction to assistant coaches to ensure consistent instruction, supervision, and program expectations

• Instruct athletes in the rules, techniques, strategies, and safety requirements of the sport
• Plan and carry out all activities necessary to prepare the team for games, tournaments, and other athletic competitions
• Coach and supervise student‑athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and related activities
• Promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and positive behavior
• Monitor academic eligibility and encourage student‑athlete academic success
• Communicate effectively with parents, staff, media, booster organizations, and community stakeholders regarding the athletic program
• Oversee equipment management, inventory, recordkeeping, and program administration.
• Coordinate team events, awards programs, parent activities, and other athletic department functions
• Ensure compliance with district, conference, and state athletic regulations and procedures
• Serve as a positive role model for student‑athletes
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality of student, family, and staff information
• Work collaboratively with co‑workers and school staff
• Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth
• Uphold school policies, procedures, and educational standards
• Perform other duties as assigned by Administration

Stipend

• $4523.23 for the 2026-2027 school year
