Job summary

Manteno Middle School is seeking a 6th Grade Boys Basketball Coach to develop athletes and promote sportsmanship, academics, and competitive excellence. The role emphasizes instruction, supervision, and program leadership within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities include planning practices, evaluating players, coordinating with staff and parents, and ensuring compliance with district and state rules. A stipend is provided for the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, strategies and safety.
• Ability to motivate, instruct, and supervise student-athletes.
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, students, parents and community.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Successful completion of district, state and athletic association coaching requirements.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and encourage student participation in the athletic program.
• Instruct, supervise, and develop student-athletes.
• Evaluate athlete skills, assign team positions, and oversee player development.
• Provide leadership to assistant coaches to ensure consistent instruction and program expectations.
• Plan and conduct practices that promote individual and team improvement.
• Instruct athletes in rules, techniques, strategies, and safety requirements of basketball.
• Prepare the team for games, tournaments, and other competitions.
• Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices and travel.
• Promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and positive behavior.
• Monitor academic eligibility and encourage student-athlete academic success.
• Communicate with parents, staff, media, booster organizations, and stakeholders.
• Oversee equipment management, inventory, and program administration.
• Coordinate team events, awards programs, and other athletic functions.
• Ensure compliance with district, conference, and state regulations.
• Serve as a positive role model and maintain confidentiality.
• Work with staff to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth.

• Coordinate team events, awards programs, parent activities, and other athletic department functions
• Ensure compliance with district, conference, and state athletic regulations and procedures
• Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality of student, family, and staff information
• Work collaboratively with co-workers and school staff
• Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth
• Uphold school policies, procedures, and educational standards
• Perform other duties as assigned by Administration

Stipend

• $2741.35 for the 2026-2027 school year
