Job summary

The Boone County Schools seek a Middle School Head Softball Coach to lead the Van Jr./Sr. High School program. You will plan practices, teach softball fundamentals, and supervise athletes to promote teamwork, discipline, and academic achievement.

You will coordinate with the Principal and Athletic Director, ensure safety, monitor eligibility, and maintain equipment and records while modeling professionalism and good sportsmanship.

Qualifications

• Possess knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and coaching techniques.
• Complete all required coaching certifications, training, and background checks.
• Previous softball coaching or playing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Salary: In accordance with the Boone County Schools approved coaching salary schedule.

Job Summary

The Middle School Head Softball Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the middle school softball program at Van Jr./Sr. High School. The coach will provide leadership, instruction, and supervision to student-athletes while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, academic achievement, and positive character development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Organize, develop, and administer the middle school softball program in accordance with Boone County Schools policies and West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) regulations.
• Plan and conduct practices, conditioning activities, and softball skill-development sessions.
• Teach fundamental softball skills, including throwing, catching, hitting, fielding, pitching, base running, and offensive and defensive strategies.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, team travel, and other softball-related activities.
• Establish and enforce team rules, expectations, and standards of conduct.
• Promote a positive athletic environment that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, character development, academic achievement, respect, and responsibility.
• Develop game strategies, evaluate player performance, and prepare student-athletes for competition.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director regarding schedules, transportation, facilities, equipment, and other program needs.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes by following established safety procedures and athletic protocols.
• Maintain positive and professional communication with student-athletes, parents, school administrators, and coaching staff.
• Monitor student-athlete eligibility and ensure compliance with applicable WVSSAC regulations.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of softball equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
• Attend required coaching meetings, professional development sessions, and training.
• Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and good sportsmanship.
• Perform other duties related to the softball program as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.

Qualifications

• Meet all applicable West Virginia Department of Education, WVSSAC, and Boone County Schools requirements for athletic coaches.
• Possess knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and coaching techniques.
• Demonstrate effective leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Be able to establish positive working relationships with students, parents, school personnel, and the community.
• Complete all required coaching certifications, training, and background checks.
• Previous softball coaching or playing experience is preferred.
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively instruct, motivate, and supervise middle school student-athletes.

Terms of Employment

This is a seasonal extracurricular coaching position requiring participation in scheduled practices, contests, meetings, and other activities associated with the middle school softball program. Compensation shall be based on the approved Boone County Schools coaching salary schedule.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated by the Principal and/or Athletic Director in accordance with Boone County Schools policies and procedures.
