Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Prefer experience working in supervision in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills including ability to communicate with adults and students in diverse environments.

Responsibilities

• Supervise student athletes.
• Stay current with rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices.
• Monitor student-athletes to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Place student-athletes in positions to succeed in sport and in life.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with staff, officials, students, parents, and community.
• Ensure safety measures are observed and equipment is properly cared for.
• Attend all training sessions and staff meetings.
• Work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Verify eligibility by league policies and district rules.
• Secure equipment and facilities after usage.
• Communicate with administrators, safe schools, custodians, and police as needed.
• Engage with youth groups to foster participation growth.
• Be a positive role model for student-athletes.
• Support all district athletics programs.

Position Title: Middle School Assistant Coach

Reports To: Director of Athletics & High School Head Coach

Salary: Stipend (set by coaches pay scale)

Position Goal

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe conditions in accordance with PIAA, league, sports medicine and RSD policies/procedures. Furthermore the candidate will be responsible for assisting student-athletes to establish a life after high school while instilling Red Knight pride, connecting with youth programs, teaching education through athletics, and fundraising.

Qualifications

• Must be a minimum age of 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferable experience working in a supervision role in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students in a diverse work environment.

Essential Functions

• Supervise student athletes
• Stay current with current rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices
• Monitor student-athletes to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Place student-athletes in positions to succeed not only in their sport, but also in life
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with sports medicine staff, game workers, officials, media, students, parents, spectators, and facility staff.
• Ensures that all possible safety measures are observed, including taking proper care of equipment and proper surveillance of program participants.
• Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
• Work flexible hours including off season training, early mornings, afternoon/evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Verify student-athletes are eligible by PIAA and Reading School District Athletic policies.
• Secure equipment and facilities after each usage
• Communicate with RSD admin, safe schools, custodial services and/or RPD as needed.
• Communicate with youth groups and foster participation growth
• Be a good role model to student-athletes
• Support all RSD athletics

Physical Requirements

• Physically perform all skills required of a coach.
• Hear noises and distress signals in a crowded athletic facility.
• Able to withstand extreme weather conditions
• Able to lift at least 20 pounds.
