Job summary

Reading School District is seeking a Youth Assistant Coach to create a safe, positive atmosphere for student-athletes and promote safe conditions per governing bodies and district policies.

The role emphasizes instilling Red Knight pride, teaching through athletics, and assisting with fundraising while collaborating with athletic staff and administrators.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Preferable supervision/leadership experience in athletics or education
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities in a diverse environment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise student-athletes
  • Stay current with rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices
  • Monitor student-athletes to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Place student-athletes in positions to succeed in sport and life
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with staff, officials, parents, and students
  • Ensure safety measures and proper equipment care
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings
  • Work flexible hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Verify eligibility by governing bodies and RSD policies
  • Secure equipment and facilities after usage
  • Communicate with RSD admin, safe schools, custodial services as needed
  • Be a good role model to student-athletes
  • Distribute, collect, and track uniforms/equipment
  • Support all RSD athletics

Position Title

Youth Assistant Coach

Director of Athletics & High School Head Coach

Stipend (set by coaches pay scale)

Position Goal

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe conditions in accordance with governing bodies, league, sports medicine and RSD policies/procedures. Furthermore the candidate will be responsible for instilling Red Knight pride, teaching education through athletics, and fundraising.

Qualifications
  • Must be a minimum age of 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferable experience working in a supervision role in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students in a diverse work environment.
Essential Functions
  • Supervise student-athletes
  • Stay current with current rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices
  • Monitor student-athletes to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Place student-athletes in positions to succeed not only in their sport, but also in life
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with sports medicine staff, game workers, officials, media, students, parents, spectators, and facility staff.
  • Ensures that all possible safety measures are observed, including taking proper care of equipment and proper surveillance of program participants.
  • Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
  • Work flexible hours including, early mornings, afternoon/evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Verify student-athletes are eligible by governing bodies and Reading School District Athletic policies.
  • Secure equipment and facilities after each usage
  • Communicate with RSD admin, safe schools, custodial services and/or RPD as needed.
  • Be a good role model to student-athletes
  • Distribute, collect and track uniforms/equipment
  • Support all RSD athletics
Physical Requirements
  • Physically perform all skills required of a coach.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in a crowded athletic facility.
  • Able to withstand extreme weather conditions
  • Able to lift at least 20 pounds.
