Job summary

LEAP Academy University Charter School is seeking an experienced General Science Teacher for grades 6–8 for the 2026/2027 school year. The teacher will deliver standards-aligned science instruction, differentiate to meet diverse learners, and monitor progress with data-driven approaches to raise student achievement.

The role requires collaboration with the principal and staff, ongoing communication with families, and a commitment to an inclusive, engaging classroom.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Required NJ state teacher certification (New Jersey Standard Certificate, CE or CEAS or reciprocity eligibility).
• Experience and comfort working directly in an urban classroom setting.
• Documented experience using data-driven instruction to achieve significant student gains.

Responsibilities

• Develops and administers curriculum aligned with LEAP's district goals and objectives.
• Promotes a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
• Develops lesson plans and materials and translates plans into engaging learning experiences.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instruction to fit needs, including students with special needs.
• Instructs students in citizenship and other subject matters per laws and district policies.
• Attends seminars and professional meetings to stay current in the field.
• Maintains accurate records of grading and attendance as required by district procedures.
• Encourages parental involvement and communicates progress and expectations to families.
• Coordinates with staff to evaluate and improve curriculum and participates in meetings.
• Selects appropriate books and supplies with Principal input and maintains inventory.
• Supervises students during activities outside classroom time and coordinates transportation as needed.
• Administers standardized tests in accordance with district programs.

Job Description:

LEAP Academy University Charter School is seeking an experienced, highly qualified, passionate, and dedicated General Science Teacher to inspire curiosity and foster a love of scientific inquiry in students. The ideal candidate will partner with the School Principal and instructional staff to promote student success by delivering engaging, standards-aligned science instruction that supports academic achievement and personal growth. This educator will implement district-approved curriculum, differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, monitor and document student progress, and create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. The General Science Teacher will also maintain strong partnerships with students, families, and school leadership by providing ongoing communication regarding student progress, expectations, and goals while encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develops and administers elementary curriculum consistent with LEAP's district goals and objectives.
• Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
• Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
• Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
• Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Selects; with Principal and Chief Academic Officer appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
• Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
• Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.

Terms of Employment:

2026/2027 10-month contracted position

Salary Range:Starting at $60,000
