Middle School Field Hockey, Assistant Coach

POSITION TITLE: Middle School Field Hockey, Assistant Coach
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness
FLSA: Exempt
TERM: Seasonal (August – October)

POSITION SUMMARY

Part‑time seasonal position. Assist the head coach with all aspects of the middle school field hockey program for 7th‑ and 8th‑grade students. Responsible for coaching, player development, game logistics, equipment maintenance, communication with parents, and compliance with school and association policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and technique of the sport.
• Assist with planning and organizing tryouts, practices, and game operations.
• Assess player skills, monitor players during competitions and practice, and keep the Field Hockey Program Head informed of athletic performance.
• Organize and direct individuals and small group practices and exercises.
• Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
• Model sports‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
• Participate in special activities including parent’s night and end‑of‑season team gathering.
• Supervise and instruct student‑athletes during all team activities.
• Assist with maintenance and inventory of team equipment and apparel.
• Maintain regular communication with team parents and athletics program staff regarding team activities.
• Attend required team and interscholastic athletics program meetings.
• Support multi‑sport participation for student‑athletes.
• Promote balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student‑athletes.
• Comply with all Charlotte Country Day School, North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association, Greater Charlotte Middle School Athletics Association, and Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association policies and procedures.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Have at least a bachelor’s degree.
• Experience coaching field hockey at middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for the role of athletics in an independent school setting.
• Vision and creativity.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team‑oriented environment.
• Employment contingent upon an approved criminal background check.
• Willingness to pursue certification from National Federation of State High School Associations (CIC – Certified Interscholastic Coach or AIC – Accredited Interscholastic Coach) and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Endorsements of P (passenger) and S (school bus) preferred.
