FLSA: Exempt

TERM: Seasonal (August – October)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Field Hockey JV Head Coach will join an athletics program that includes 26 varsity sports. The JV Field Hockey team will consist of 9th and 10th graders and will play in the Fall season (August–October). This part‑time, seasonal position begins Monday, August 3 2026 and ends in late October 2026. The coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the JV Field Hockey program, including development, supervision, and mentorship of student‑athletes while working collaboratively with the Field Hockey Program Head.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Instruct players in rules, regulations, equipment, and technique of the sport.
• Plan and organize tryouts, practices, and games operations.
• Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, keep the Program Head informed of student‑athlete performance.
• Organize and direct individual and small‑group practices/exercises.
• Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
• Model sports‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
• Participate in special activities including parents' night and end‑of‑season team gathering.
• Supervise and instruct student‑athletes during all team activities.
• Maintain inventory of team equipment and apparel.
• Communicate regularly with team parents and athletics program staff about team activities.
• Attend required team and interscholastic athletics program meetings.
• Support multi‑sport participation for student‑athletes.
• Promote balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student‑athletes.
• Comply with all Charlotte Country Day School, North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association, and Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least a bachelor’s degree.
• Experience coaching field hockey at middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• Enthusiasm for athletics in an independent school setting.
• Vision and creativity.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Team‑oriented work style.
• Background check approval.
• Willingness to pursue a CIC or AIC certification and a Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with P and S endorsements preferred.
