Job summary

Bancroft School in Worcester, MA seeks a collaborative Middle School English teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate is an English generalist comfortable teaching across all middle school grades with strong reading, writing, grammar, and literature expertise.

You will design student-centered, inquiry-based lessons that build critical thinking and meaningful discussion, collaborate across disciplines, and participate in advising, clubs, and school life.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or Education required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of middle school English teaching experience.
  • Experience with inquiry-based learning and project-based learning.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
  • Familiarity with a variety of educational technology applications.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 4 to 5 sections of English across the middle school.
  • Serve as advisor and be part of a collaborative grade-level team.
  • Participate in club leadership and house sponsorship as part of Middle School life.
  • Attend faculty meetings, participate in committees and admissions activities.
  • Engage in professional development to support inclusive teaching and DEIB.

Position Summary

Bancroft School seeks a collaborative Middle School English teacher to join our dynamic team of educators for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate is an English generalist who is comfortable teaching across all middle school grade levels and brings strong content knowledge in reading, writing, grammar, and literature. They are committed to cultivating thoughtful readers, skilled writers, and confident communicators by designing engaging, student-centered learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion.

Bancroft faculty are encouraged to bring fresh ideas to the curriculum, integrate global perspectives, and demonstrate genuine commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). Candidates should have experience in curricular design and the ability to create learning experiences that inspire curiosity and active participation.

The successful candidate will collaborate effectively across disciplines to support interdisciplinary learning within the Humanities and beyond. As Bancroft deepens its emphasis on inquiry-based learning, this role offers real opportunities for curricular creativity, including the design of interdisciplinary projects that connect English to contemporary issues and broader human experience.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Teach 4 to 5 sections of courses in English across the middle school, including all aspects of planning, instruction, and assessment
  • Promote social and emotional growth by serving as an advisor and a part of a collaborative, grade level team
  • In addition to classroom teaching, the position includes participation in all aspects of Middle School life including club leadership and house sponsorship
  • Participate as an invested community member by attending faculty meetings, serving on committees, participating in admissions activities, and other routine faculty responsibilities
  • Engage in professional development to enhance inclusive teaching and leadership practices. The school offers extensive professional development opportunities to support a racially and ethnically diverse community that is informed, self-reflective, and characterized by respect and careful listening
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English or Education Required, Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Three to five years teaching experience preferred
  • Experience in and enthusiasm for implementing inquiry-based learning
  • Proven ability to differentiate instruction
  • Familiarity with a variety of technological applications

Compensation & Benefits

Bancroft School offers a competitive salary range for this position of $42,000 to $68,000, determined by the scope of responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational considerations. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, including education, experience, skills, expertise, and internal equity. Final salary details, along with a comprehensive benefits package, will be provided upon an employment offer.
