Position Summary

Teach English and Writing Workshop to Middle School students in grade 6 and serve as a grade-level advisor. An affection for students in this age group, an understanding of their needs and energy, and a willingness to work collaboratively with staff, administration, and parents are of utmost importance.

• Provide innovative and comprehensive instruction to develop critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking skills.
• Create and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful, and stimulating environment conducive to children’s learning.
• Serve as grade-level advisor to a small group of students and contribute to grade-level advisory activities, field trips, and overnight class trips.
• Plan and prepare lessons to deliver a balanced and comprehensive curriculum.
• Set clear teaching objectives and high expectations for student learning.
• Organize and manage groups or individual pupils, ensuring differentiation to meet all learning needs.
• Develop opportunities to enhance social, emotional, and cultural learning aspects.
• Maintain systematic assessment, record-keeping, and reporting of student progress.
• Contribute to curriculum development and coordination within the department.
• Communicate regularly with parents about academic, social, and emotional aspects of their children’s education.
• Promote equality and treat everyone with fairness and dignity.
• Ensure health and safety responsibilities are upheld, taking responsible care of self and others, and complying with school policies.
• Encourage participation in athletic coaching and extracurricular activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English; advanced degree preferred.
• A teaching certificate is not necessary but will be favorably considered.
• Experience teaching grades 6-8.
