Job summary

Graham Windham in Bronx, NY seeks a Community Middle School Education Specialist to provide educational advocacy and support for students in 5th through 8th grade. You will assist youth, case planners, and families to help students perform at grade level and gain promotion to the next grade while guiding high school selections.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree, at least one year of experience with the NYC school system, knowledge of NYC DOE policies, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with up to 50 5th through 8th graders and their families and case planners.
• Provide educational advocacy to ensure students are receiving the supports/services they need to succeed in school.
• Assist with high school selection processes for 7th and 8th grade students and their families, ensuring applications to high performing, best-fit schools and tracking via online platform.
• Assist 5th grade students and families with middle school selection processes.
• Refer students in need of academic help for tutoring and follow up with Tutors/Coaches on performance and needs.
• Refer students with advanced skills to support for specialized high school test prep and honors programs.
• Use online platform to monitor and update academic milestones related to attendance, service, and progress in Connections.
• Connect students to after-school and summer extracurricular activities.
• Coordinate with Case Planning Teams and families as needed.
• Participate in Family Team Conferences and provide guidance on educational needs.
