Job summary

Longsjo Middle School in Fitchburg, MA is seeking a School Counselor for the middle school to provide direct, in-person services to students needing academic, social, and emotional support. The role reports to the Principal and requires MA School Counselor licensure (PreK-8 or 5-12) and a Bachelor's degree (Master’s preferred).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Massachusetts license: School Counselor PreK-8 or 5-12
• Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations
• Knowledge of middle school developmental needs and mandated programs
• Ability to work with teachers, staff, and parents; advocate for children to problem-solve
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Commitment to increasing personal growth—academic and social-emotional—for every student

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, in-person counseling to students needing academic, social, and/or emotional support.
• Identify students who may require ongoing counseling during the school day or outside counseling services.
• Monitor academically at-risk students and collaborate with teachers and parents to help the student create a plan for success.
• Develop a schedule to meet and instruct assigned students in coordination with classroom teachers.
• Schedule, lead, and/or participate in meetings with parents, teachers, and the building administration team.
• Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school.
• Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement; use innovative approaches and technology.
• Maintain and improve professional competence through attendance at professional development events and recertification-related activities.
• Implement the district's mission, philosophy of education, and instructional standards and objectives.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by district policy.
• Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
