Job summary

Kansas City School District is seeking a Middle School Assistant Cheer Coach at Central Middle School in Kansas City, Missouri. The role is part-time for a 10-month school year, with a salary of $2,000 per year.

The position supports the athletic program under the Athletic Director, coordinating cheer activities, practices, and event coverage while ensuring safety and compliance with MSHSAA standards.

Qualifications

• Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid courses.
• Knowledge of particular sport (philosophy & coaching)

Responsibilities

• Support and demonstrate leadership in team dynamics aligned with MSHSAA standards for Sideline Cheer.
• Assist in implementing and enforcing activity standards outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook.
• Support planning and execution of Assistant Sponsor responsibilities.
• Plan and organize activities that support the school’s athletic teams.
• Ensure Cheer/Dance Team participation at all JV and Varsity home contests.
• Coordinate efforts for the team to support other athletic programs through promotions or organized cheer sections.
• Assist in the coordination and overall management of the cheer program.
• Support the Head Coach with student supervision during practices and contests.
• Collaborate with Head Coaches on transportation and game management logistics.
• Maintain inventory of equipment and facilities; submit documentation to the Athletic Director.
• Help organize and schedule regular practice sessions focused on development.
• Emphasize safety and stay informed on best practices for training and injury management.
• Model ethical behavior and uphold sportsmanship standards.
• Ensure building use policies are understood and followed.
• Oversee return of school equipment and maintain inventory records.
• Assist with records of team and individual achievements and report to Athletic Director.
