Job summary

The North Plainfield School District is seeking a dynamic Middle School Cheer Coach for North Plainfield Middle School. The role focuses on building a comprehensive program that supports student-athletes both on and off the court and emphasizes character, teamwork, and leadership.

The coach will organize practices, ensure safe cheer activities, and collaborate with administrators, athletic staff, and the high school coaching team to promote academic excellence and positive citizenship.

Qualifications

• Requires NJ teaching or substitute certificate and CPR/AED/First Aid current or obtained before season.
• Proven knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, sideline duties, and safety standards.
• Ability to organize practices, supervise students, and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Strong communication and leadership skills; collaborate with students, parents, and staff.
• Awareness of NJSIAA policies and district rules governing athletics.

We are seeking a coach who is passionate about building a comprehensive cheer program that supports student-athletes both on and off the court.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

Required

• Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or New Jersey Substitute Certificate.
• Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid (or obtain prior to the season).
• Demonstrated knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, sideline cheer, game-day responsibilities, safety standards, stunting progressions, and choreography.
• Ability to organize practices, supervise students, and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, school administration, athletic administration, and the high school coaching staff.
• Foster an academic-based athletic culture by encouraging academic excellence, accountability, and positive citizenship while supporting student-athletes in achieving success both in the classroom and in cheerleading.
• Knowledge of NJSIAA, school district, and Board of Education policies governing athletics and extracurricular activities.
• Successful completion of all district employment requirements.
• Successful completion of all required NJSIAA coaching education requirement

Preferred

• Previous cheerleading coaching and/or competitive cheer experience.
