Job Description
The Assistant Track & Field Coach supports the Head Coach in developing and managing a successful middle school track and field program. The coach will assist with practices, competitions, conditioning, skill development, and student-athlete supervision while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices, workouts, conditioning, and training sessions.
- Teach and develop proper fundamentals and techniques for track and field events, including running, jumping, and throwing events.
- Assist in preparing student-athletes for track meets and competitions.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and team activities.
- Assist with event-specific training and help identify student-athletes’ strengths and appropriate events.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, accountability, and positive character development.
- Monitor student-athlete behavior and ensure compliance with school and athletic department expectations.
- Assist with managing uniforms, equipment, facilities, and track areas.
- Assist with meet preparation, including athlete organization, event assignments, warm-ups, and other meet responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate attendance, participation, and other records as assigned.
- Assist with ensuring student-athletes meet all academic, attendance, physical, and athletic eligibility requirements.
- Communicate professionally with the Head Coach, Athletic Director, school administration, parents/guardians, officials, and student-athletes.
- Follow all school, district, state athletic association, and athletic department policies and procedures.
- Attend required coaches’ meetings, professional development, CPR/first-aid training, and athletic department activities.
- Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes and represent the school and athletic program in a professional manner.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Head Track & Field Coach or Athletic Director.
Qualifications:
- Previous track and field experience and/or coaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge of track and field events, training techniques, and competition rules preferred.
- Ability to effectively work with and motivate middle school student-athletes.
- Strong communication, organization, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to student-athlete safety, academic success, sportsmanship, and character development.
- Must meet all school district and state athletic association coaching requirements.

The Assistant Track & Field Coach is expected to uphold the standards of the Lexington Middle School Athletic Department and serve as a positive representative of the school, student-athletes, families, and community
