Job summary

Lexington Middle School seeks a Middle School Assistant Track & Field Coach to support the Head Coach in developing a successful program. You will assist with practices, conditioning, skill development, and student-athlete supervision while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.

The role requires prior track experience and strong communication, organization, and leadership for a positive school community. Position is part-time and based at Lexington Middle School in North Carolina.

Qualifications

  • Previous track and field experience and/or coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of track and field events, training techniques, and competition rules preferred.
  • Ability to effectively motivate middle school student-athletes and communicate with them

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices, workouts, conditioning, and training sessions.
  • Teach and develop fundamentals and techniques for track and field events (running, jumping, throwing).
  • Assist in preparing student-athletes for track meets and competitions.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and team activities.
  • Assist with event-specific training and help identify athletes’ strengths and suitable events.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, accountability, and positive character development.
  • Monitor student-athlete behavior and ensure compliance with school policies.
  • Help manage uniforms, equipment, facilities, and track areas.
  • Assist with meet preparation, athlete organization, warm-ups, and other duties.
  • Maintain attendance, participation, and other records as assigned.
  • Ensure athletes meet academic, attendance, physical, and athletic eligibility requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with Head Coach, Athletic Director, school administration, parents/guardians, officials, and student-athletes.
  • Attend required coaches’ meetings, professional development, CPR/first-aid training, and athletic department activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes and represent the school professionally.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Head Track & Field Coach or Athletic Director.

Job Description

The Assistant Track & Field Coach supports the Head Coach in developing and managing a successful middle school track and field program. The coach will assist with practices, competitions, conditioning, skill development, and student-athlete supervision while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices, workouts, conditioning, and training sessions.
  • Teach and develop proper fundamentals and techniques for track and field events, including running, jumping, and throwing events.
  • Assist in preparing student-athletes for track meets and competitions.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and team activities.
  • Assist with event-specific training and help identify student-athletes’ strengths and appropriate events.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, accountability, and positive character development.

  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head Track & Field Coach or Athletic Director.

The Assistant Track & Field Coach is expected to uphold the standards of the Lexington Middle School Athletic Department and serve as a positive representative of the school, student-athletes, families, and community
